How to:

This tutorial will show you how to easily disassemble the lg gt540 optimus and gain access to the deepest layer of the phone in order to replace the LCD Screen. (These can be bought off ebay for the cheap price of £20/$45, and with this guide are easily replaceable)

(1) We need to take off the back cover by sliding it off, and take out all the screws on the edge frame and silver plate.
Yellow:Normal Screws, Red: Pull and screw at the same time to remove.  I recommend having one person lift up on the screw from below it with a tool of some sort (credit card etc) and the other screwing it out.

(2) After we take off this frame, a white structure attached to the motherboard/silver plate has to be removed.

Yellow is the white structure, the red shows an orange display band that should not be tampered with. Although next to this there is a component stuck to the frame with orange tape, uncovering this will help in disassembly.

Taking apart the white component from the board is hard to do as any aggressive strain can damage it. Here are the pressure point at which you should focus attention. At these three areas, use a knife to lever off the white thing from the board, as it is safest at these points. Note: There is a chip connection under the circular part of this white thing that has to be detached.

(3) Taking this off exposes the rubber band connected to the screen. This is all that holds the chip in place from being taken off the phone at this time. As highlighted below in this area is the head of the rubber band which can be easily picked off (this a chip connection also).

(4) As we can see below, all that is left is to take out the screen. What we see here is the silver back casing holding the screen to the face of the phone.

Use a knife to lever off this casing from the frame (it's quite difficult so be careful), try to avoid scratching the bands surrounding the plate or the frame.

(5) Now all this left to do is implement your new screen, by fitting it back in to the back casing and in to the frame. Go through this guide in reverse, making sure that all the components are fitting well and undamaged.

Good luck guys!
